interesting to see the hand and foot touching. usually, you (well, at least i) only see one or the other, and if both, often they are separate entities when depicted. here, they become one. and the motion is a soothing one, as if the heat/fire/tenseness coming from the red figure needs to be soothed? or is it that the red figure stirs up a longing for that sense of calm and gentleness? hmmm...

On first hand this painting has been a study for body parts which got a life of its own. I often sit in this position...on the floor...hands on my feet...which I find is very relaxing, and the figure of the man, self-absorbed, came to rest on this place quite naturally.
For me it is the expression of being centred...
