Kunst? Art?

Sometimes your thoughts turn around a certain point and- like an incident- you meet this theme around many corners. All receptors are "on".

Last Friday,Shula posted (so great!!) about "crafters". Like in German, this title has a really dismissive taste.

On the blog of
Anna Davern I found something on "What is beauty?"( in relation to jewellery for example)
What is beauty in relation to human beings ( who is beautiful, who is pretty?)?

Everything gets sorted, everything has to be decided.
Either you are an artist, or a crafter, first is good but(because) it cannot be understood by everybody, the second is......mmh....unprofessional.

And, now, what is art?
or craftmanship?
And why is everything so complicated?

What is a creative life?

You start to discover, to see and feel the need to create. And you recognize, that your modes of expression are a bit limited. So you start learning...mainly for yourself, because its fun, or ,perhaps, for becoming a professional. You learn to know the material you chose and there will be a time when it doesn't dominate you any more....you have the guiding hand.Your eyes and mind are open and constantly learning new things. And, as time passes, perhaps you become an artist.

I believe, that everybody who loves to create is somewhere on this path, and surely this way is no straight line and there is no goal, but its worth walking!

And perhaps we can only decide, if somebody was really involved in the piece he created. And perhaps, to decide it, we have to know a bit more about him....not only his work.

Firstly I am impressed by your use of English; Secondly, thank you so much for the insightful links and thoughts. To know the true meaning behind a piece of artwork, I agree that you need to get to know the artist, their backgrounds etc...that's why on my blog, I always try to seek a person's influences, backgrounds, what makes them 'tick'. Thank you!! -you have given me food for thought.

Oh yeah, the ongoing debate between craft vs. art...sigh...maybe it's all a bit overrated with constantly trying to put 'things' into drawers and 'label' them...I don't know. The only thing that really counts either way and anyway is the ACT of CREATING itself and the love we as the makers/creators let flow into it.
But I personally always thought that "Kunsthadnwerker" a very nobel thing is and highly appreciated in German and more so than the more common term of the 'artist'.

LOVE your bubbles!! They are magic!!!

I'm off to create some more now... ;)

Hallo,

Frohes Schaffen!
